La Brea Tar Pits by Betsy Weber

Yes, I am participating in this years National Novel Writing Month, again. Last year I made the word count, but didn’t write something I was at all happy with. This year I’m working on a story that I’ve been planning and researching for much of this year, so I’m hoping I’ll end up with something I like this time round.

Its working title is “The Tar”, hence the picture at the top of this post. So far I’ve managed to write 3,815 words to my 50,000 target for the challenge. I’ve been enjoying it so far, it’s not felt like a chore, though I think this is in part due to the amount of planning I’ve done over the course of the year. I know where things are meant to be going, but I’m leaving a lot of what’s happening in the novel up to whim as I write. Though I appreciate that there are people who don’t plan for it, and that’s fine. Unfortunately, I’m the kind of fiction writer who needs to have a basic road map before I can write.

If you want to follow my progress, you can do so on my ek6891 NaNoWriMo profile here.

Are you taking part in this year’s NaNoWriMo? How’s it going for you so far? Let me know in the comments.
